Grounding of the Countess of Derby; Collision between the John Sherbourne and tugs. 1914 and 1915
Transcibed from the Dover Express, two short descriptions of ship groundings/collisions.
One, dated 30th January 1914, concerned the topsail schooner Countess of Derby, which drifted ashore at Leathercote Point but was safely towed off by the Dover Harbour Board tug Lady Vita and towed to Dover for inspection.
The other article, 5th February 1915, was about a collision between the trawler John Sherbourne, which grounded in St Margaret’s Bay and a tug. Unsuccessful attempts were made to repair the trawler but it was eventually salvaged.
