Eva Curling - Defence of the Realm Permit Book No. 130270
This is a permit issued to Eva Curling in 1916 under the Defence of the Realm Act 1914 (DORA). This act gave the government wide ranging powers during the war (WW1) such as the power to requisition buildings and land needed for the war effort and restricted a number of peacetime activities in order to secure public safety and the defence of the realm.
A permit such as this was required for particular purposes such as, in this case, to enter a Special Military Area. Bockhill Farm was in such an area. Eva Curling resided in Bockhill Farm at this time.
