Grounding of the Firth of Cromarty. 1894
This is an excellent contemporary report from the Dover Express of 2nd February 1894 into the stranding of the ‘Firth of Cromarty’ off the South Foreland and the subsequent rescue of her crew, one of whom died.
During the night, she drifted round to St Margaret’s Bay and stranded on the beach there. After removal of her cargo and some of her spars and rigging, she was finally refloated and towed to Dover Harbour for inspection and repair before resuming her passage.
