HMS Zubian
HMS Zubian was formed by attaching the stern of HMS Nubian to the forward part of HMS Zulu. The work was done at Chatham dockyard. Both ships were Tribal-class destroyers attached to the Dover Patrol and were damaged in action in 1916. HMS Nubian was torpedoed and driven ashore under the cliffs at St Margaret’s Bay where parts of her forepart remains. HMS Zulu had hit a mine and lost her stern.
The re-commissioned HMS Zubian (named after an amalgam of Zulu and Nubian) joined up with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla at Dover until the end of World War 1. In 1919 the Admiralty decided that HMS Zubian was no longer required for service and was broken up in 1920.
