New promenade and sea wall under construction. Early 1950s
From the Gordon Denoon album further photographs of the sea wall and promenade construction in St Margaret’s Bay.
In Gordon Denoon’s ‘Saga of St Margaret’s’ he writes:
‘During the years of planning and construction, this sea defence scheme was naturally a major interest but our holiday activities progressed as usual. Several of our old friends were introduced to the Bay and stayed with us at the Cliffe; these included Mrs Banks, and her children Margaret and Peter, Alice Hill and Ann Bertoud. Because of the building work and beach excavations we had to sit on the eastern end of the beach by the old wartime wall. The absence of bathing huts didn’t stop us swimming but interesting techniques were developed for disrobing and vice versa in the very restricted space’
