Patrol Vessel John Sherburn wrecked and being salvaged in St Margaret's Bay. 1915
A postcard showing the wrecked Patrol Vessel in St Margaret’s Bay being salvaged.
She was built in 1902 by Cook, Welton & Gemmell of Hull and was owned by the Humber Steam Trawling Company, her name then being FV (Fishing Vessel) John Sherburn.
In 1914, she was requisitioned by the Admiralty becoming an auxiliary patrol vessel Admiralty No FY815 and joined the fleet of Dover Patrol vessels operating out of Dover Harbour. On the 6th March 1915, in poor weather, she became stranded in St Margaret’s Bay eventually becoming a total loss and was finally salvaged.
