Shipwrecks off St Margaret's Bay - Dione, 1929 and Notre Dame de Lourdes 1932
On the 12th January 1929, a German steamer, the Dione was in collision with the Osmed from Sweden, near the South Goodwins. The latter was able to continue her passage, but the Dione was towed by the Dover tugs Lady Brassey and Lady Duncannon. Temporary repairs were made in St Margaret’s Bay, but later she was taken to Dover and beached.
The 2nd article, from the Dover Express of 22nd July 1932 concerned a French trawler, the Notre Dame de Lourdes, which fouled the wreck of the Preussen and was totally lost.
