South Foreland Valley c.1960s
From the Gordon Denoon album a photograph of South Foreland Valley together with a newspaper cutting.
Outline planning permission was given in 1961 for housing in the South Foreland valley but after a lengthy battle by local residents planning permission was revoked by Richard Crossman, the then Minister of Housing and Local Government, in 1965.
The valley, which is in an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) is now also designated as a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).
