Two views notable for the cliff edge footpaths that no longer exist. The coloured card looking southwards also clearly shows the roads laid out for housing in a landscape then devoid of trees.
The black and white card features well developed buildings; the ‘Green Man’ hidden in the trees left of centre, the cottages, tea rooms and the hotel in the distance.
At present we do not have a positive date for either card. The coloured view, by the Pictorial Stationary Co. Ltd. London is number 1707 in the Peacock Brand and is after 1888 but before 1936! The other card, number 995 in the Victoria Series by J.Davis, 24 Queen Victoria Street, London, E.C.1, is known to be after 1903 as the Excelsior Tea Rooms have been built.
