Cliffe Hotel Tennis Courts. Late 1920s
One of a series of photographs from the Gordon Denoon album of family and friends on the tennis courts at the Cliffe Hotel.
The accompanying caption reads:
‘Hilda Galley, Shep, Alice and Mrs Holloway, and Joan’
Hilda Galley was a good friend of Gordon’s wife, Tommie. Mrs Holloway was also friends with the Dunoons and Alice was her daughter. Joan is Gordon and Tommie’s daughter. The photograph is undated but probably late 1920’s as Joan was born in 1923.
The second entry is Gordon Denoon’s narrative prefacing the tennis court photographs. The ‘old peoples homes’ referred to are the Amy Temple Cottages in Chapel Lane.
