Two black and white photographs of the USAAF B17G bomber (s/no 43-39068) which crash-landed at Nelson Park on 8th January 1945 on its return from a bombing mission over Germany. The aircraft was part of the 478th Bombardment Group assigned to the 8th Air Force and was based at Lavenham, Suffolk.
The pilot was Capt. Frank L Casey who signed both pictures for Ruth Nicol.
In the second picture the aircraft is shown facing Dover. The road in the foreground is Station Road. The houses on the far right adjacent to the haystack are thought to be Victory and Coral Cottages. The houses just above and behind the nose of the aircraft are thought to be Nos 1 & 2 Nelson Park Road.
