The tunnels beneath The White House in St Margaret’s Road were dug in 1937 for the owner Mrs Toye who was concerned about the vulnerability of the occupants should there be any bombing or shelling.
During WW2, The White House was used by the 4th Dover Signals and various graffiti was carved into the tunnel walls.
