Denoon family and friends on the foreshore c.1950/51
Three photographs from the Gordon Denoon album. All taken around 1950/51.
In the first photograph the figures are identified (from left to right) as Alice Hill, Muriel (Gordon Denoon’s sister), Tommie (Gordon Denoon’s wife), Mrs Banks and Peter. Facing them are ‘Rip’ the Denoon family pet, Ian (Gordon Denoon’s son), Mary (Gordon’s daughter) and Margaret Banks.
In the background behind the boats can be seen the ruins of the village on the beach.
In the second photograph the figures are identified as Ian (Gordon’s son), Ann Bertroud, Heather (Gordon’s daughter), Margaret Banks and Mary (Gordon’s daughter).
The family car is in the background. Gordon comments that after the Second World War there were no bathing huts on the beach and so the car was often used as a changing room.
In the third photograph the figures are identified as Alice Hill, Muriel (Gordon’s sister), Mrs Banks, Tommie (Gordon’s wife) and Harold Hersey, ‘Rip’ and Peter Banks
