Famous Residents

Here you will find information about some of our more famous residents.Since the late 19th Century when St Margaret's started to become a fashionable resort for the wealthy, it has attracted many famous visitors and residents. Some of the best known are Ian Fleming and Noel Coward, Peter Ustinov and most recently, Miriam Margolyes. Other earlier famous theatricals such as George Arliss and the Forbes- Robertson acting family also had houses here. In 1898 Marconi spent time experimenting with early wireless apparatus at the South Foreland Lighthouse.

Henry Royce of Rolls- Royce fame actually designed the first R-R aero engine in a house in Granville Road in WW1, and there is also evidence that William Pitt the Younger lived at Wallet's Court for a while.
